 Simple Knitted Baby Cardigan – Step by Step

Materials: 4 mm needles, soft acrylic or baby yarn, buttons, tapestry needle

Step 1 – Cast on: Cast on 50 stitches for a newborn size.

Step 2 – Body: Knit in stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl the next) until the piece measures about 15 cm (6 inches).

Step 3 – Divide for sleeves: Bind off 5 stitches at the start of the next two rows to create armholes. Continue knitting body pieces separately.

Step 4 – Sleeves: Pick up and knit the bound-off shoulder stitches for each sleeve, knitting rounds until desired sleeve length, then bind off.
